Although NIWA had some great matches throughout the year, five matches were selected to be the finalists for the prestigious 2014 Match of the Year. We'll gone through each match.
Money in the Bank Dragon Match (Clash of the Titans V) - Goldar winning the Money in the Bank was indeed a big deal, but it is known for one of the better Money in the Bank matches that NIWA put on that was a very stacked Clash of the Titans V.
Chuck Norris vs. Shadow the Hedgehog (Clash of the Titans V) - Although the match itself may not be the "best" per say, the emotion and story behind where we got to this match is what indeed makes this match a memorable match and prime candidate.
"The Wrestling Badass" Shelton Benjamin (c) vs. James Bond (Annualversary VI) - Although these men faced off on the biggest stage of the year for the World Title the month before, this is believed to be the better match based on the no rematch clause that was added to it. Perhaps a new champion didn't hurt matters either.
"The Wrestling Badass" Shelton Benjamin (c) vs. "Badass" Bart Simpson (A Change of Seasons) - Benjamin and Simpson had many matches for the World Title in 2014, but none was bigger than their brutal Hell in a Cell match which crowned a new champion...and then a new champion after that. It's a big deal when a Hell in a Cell match doesn't end a bitter feud, but fuels it.
"Mr. Wrestlemania" JTH (c) vs. "Angry Video Game Nerd" (Hardcore Halloween) - The JTH/"AVGN" feud during the summer was a very underrated feud that took place with the Junior Heavyweight Championship at stake, and it culminated at Hardcore Halloween with a hard hitting Ladder Match that saw the champion retain the title in a match that looked on several occasions that a new champ would be crowned.
